Thyroglobulin is a large iodinated glycoprotein which is produced by the thyroid gland, functioning as a prohormone in the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Levels of serum thyroglobulin are elevated in a variety of thyroid diseases, such as Grave’s disease (goiter), subacute thyroiditis and differentiated thyroid carcinoma.
